PHRENOLOGY
OVERVIEW
This is my redesign of the album Phrenology by The Roots. This was a photogrpahy based design project. I was to complete a front cover, back cover, and A + B
side record labels.
My approach was to focus on communicating the meaning of the albums name.
Phrenology (Phre·nol·o·gy): A pseudoscience that involves the measurement of bumps on the skull to predict
mental traits. It is based on the concept that the brain is the organ of the mind, and that certain brain areas have localized, specific functions or modules.

STYLE GUIDE
This style guide helped guide my decisions throughout this project. However I was not tied to it, this document evolved
as did my project. It’s important to me to have a system
that can grow with my design throughout the process.
PHOTOGRAPHY
My main goal when photographer my model, was
to capture the shape of the head as efficiently
as possible. I also explored a few other poses when thinking about ideas for my back cover. This was to
allow myself to carry forward the main idea behind my design: the topogrpahic lines overlayed on top of my models head.
ITERATIONS
For majority of this project I had been pursuing a specific direction, however as the deadline approached I felt my design was not communicating what I had intended. I had to work, and refine my new direction quickly to meet the deadline given to me.
